
Our society today has begun leaning heavily on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for assistance with all of our day-to-day questions and needs. This reliance is also very prevalent in the case of data security and privacy. Many educational institutions are turning towards AI-driven software that can detect threats to private data. According to the National Education Association (2025), by protecting data privacy, educators can foster a safe learning environment, build trust in AI technologies, and ensure that AI enhances student learning without compromising individual rights. Parents should be informed about these AI-driven threat detection programs – transparency is crucial when student data is the topic of discussion. Parents need to know the intended benefits of tools involving AI, the data they require, and the protocols in place to collect, store, and utilize those data (NEA, 2025).
Several techniques are becoming more popular in data security, including blockchaining data and records. Vain (2024) writes that blockchain for personal data gives students more control over who accesses their data and what data is shared. Blockchain basically creates tamper-proof records because it is virtually impossible to alter student data that is written into blockchain (Vain, 2024). Another technique that is making waves in the data security world is biometric security measures, like facial recognition. In this way, students and schools are less likely to encounter a data breach due to facial biometrics and fingerprints being extremely complicated to alter.
Educational Institutions and Ed-Tech Companies need to continue to have close relationships with each other on the development of the future of data security for students and teachers. It is crucial that educators and students remain vigilant, ensuring that data theft detection happens quickly so that recovery can begin quickly as well. Educators and Administrators should make data security a top-priority in keeping their schools a safe space for learning and growth to occur.
